Hind The Huntress

This is my character Hind in my newest literature deviation, Woodland. Although the piece was greatly inspired by #Anthropology-of-Self's Rewrite You First Story Ever Contest, I ended up loving the main character so much, I found myself sketching her and eventually coloring her.

Hind is a member of a race I created called the Fauna. At birth Fauna are separated into their roles of society. If you are a man and are born with horns you become a hunter/warrior. If you are a man and are born without horns, you become a harvester, story-teller, priest, etc.

If you are a woman and are born with horns you are forced to join the Fauna temples as a huntress. There you are trained as a warrior and you are observed and watched by the priests. Women born with horns are known to be more fertile than others. This is important to the Fauna because the only way their government and society survives is through the bloodline of the Prince of the Wood.

Every first born son of the bloodline becomes Prince of the Wood. But to have a son, the queen must be fertile. So anytime a queen dies or chooses exile, a huntress is chosen to become the next Fauna Queen. She will never have a name, except The Fauna Queen. If you are not chosen by your 25th year, you are released to join the hunters in their battle ranks.
