Curiosity Kills

I actually have a decent preview image for one of my short stories!

When I was writing my entry for #writeaway's Temptation Valentine's Contest I became very inspired by the two main characters, Beatrix and Mort. Please do not read further if you don't want spoilers on the actual short story. Beatrix is a young woman who wants greatly to be a writer, but is stuck working for an editor, hoping for her big chance. She seems cold and calculating when underneath she is alone and heartbroken by her past. Mort is a small white cat who has a regal appearance. In actuality he is Death who has possessed Beatrix's father's cat. When Death comes to take her father, he doesn't expect to fall in love with a woman who seemingly hates humanity as much as he does. When he realizes that she doesn't hate humanity, she is only bitter and alone... he finds it equally surprising that he still loves her.

In the end he is tempted to take her with him, but decides not to upon finding out that she doesn't hate her life, she just needs a reason to live. I think I may continue this story, I mean, it inspired me enough to make an image. Hopefully other people like them as much as I do.

I would love critique and advice on the image AND the story. I never draw animals, so any tips on this piece would be awesome for my future "animal" drawings. I'd appreciate any feedback so feel free to drop a comment.
